Mommy's Birthday at the Dev Ped Clinic

We had our developmental pedia appointment last April 8, 2013. It was my birthday. We spent the day doing just that.

The assessment had very promising results. Ozzy has improved in leaps and I couldn’t be more proud while watching his assessment. It was a combination of strengths and weaknesses but generally, most of his skills were at par with his age, with some skills exceptional. Speech was still a concern but nothing a former Language/ Communication Arts teacher can address. I got him to where I can help him already. And it’s very clear to me how to go about it. My husband gave me a “good job, mommy”.

Hyperactivity seems to be managed well. He sat for two hours! But I think that’s because the activities were varied and he found them interesting to do. Hyperactivity can hyper-focus and I think that’s what happened today.

I am very excited about this. It’s so important for parents to get to know their children and see the whole child. During the assessment, we discovered strengths that we can exploit. When I was reading about child psychology and discovered that talents were important for his sense of security, I had a list of things Ozzy can possibly do. But today’s assessment gave me better direction. We are now ready to plant. I have yet to study how to go about it. But more or less, I have a good picture.

Ozzy's ability to reason through tasks is way above his age. The doctor says I can exploit this to get him to communicate better.
